Family Leadership

Allen Rose (1926-2020)

Allen Rose was born on July 27, 1926, at home on a modest farm nestled between the rural towns of Lovington and Hammond, Illinois. From these humble beginnings, he would go on to become a pioneering figure in American construction and real estate, leaving a lasting legacy not only in the Chicagoland area but across the United States and around the world. After serving his country in World War II, Allen returned home with a sense of purpose and an unrelenting work ethic. He began his career in construction by pouring concrete and building homes throughout the Chicago area. In 1949, at the age of 23, he founded Chicagoland Construction, marking the beginning of a remarkable entrepreneurial journey. Reflecting on his early years in business, Allen often remarked, “One of the smartest things I ever did in my business life was to put down my toolbox and pick up a briefcase.” With that pivotal decision, he transitioned from tradesman to trailblazer, rapidly expanding his homebuilding operations. In the early 1950s, Allen led the development of hundreds of homes in the burgeoning community of Park Forest, Illinois. He soon turned his sights to Olympia Fields, acquiring parcels of land and constructing the community’s first residences. With each brick laid and each foundation poured, Allen’s reputation for quality, innovation, and integrity grew. This momentum culminated in the creation of Rose Construction, a firm that would serve as the foundation of the Rose family’s business legacy. For more than six decades, Allen remained at the helm of Rose Construction, guiding it from a residential builder into a diversified commercial real estate enterprise. As he proudly described it, the company grew into “quite a construction enterprise!”—a testament to his vision, tenacity, and entrepreneurial spirit. Allen Rose’s influence extended far beyond the structures he built. He laid the foundation for a family legacy rooted in hard work, foresight, and service. His values continue to guide the Rose Family Office today as it stewards the family’s business interests and philanthropic efforts on a global scale. Allen Rose was more than a builder of homes and buildings—he was a builder of opportunity, community, and legacy. His life’s work remains a guiding light for generations of the Rose family and all who strive to build something that lasts.
